This Privacy Policy explains how the Worldclock by Oscar Chrome extension (“the Extension”, “we”, “our”) handles user data.
The Extension has a single purpose: to provide a customizable New Tab world clock that displays the current time for selected cities. We minimize data collection and request only the permissions needed for this purpose.
DATA WE COLLECT AND WHY
Local Preferences (stored with chrome.storage
):
- List of cities and their order
- 12/24-hour clock preference and date format
- Optional greeting name
Reason: These preferences are necessary to render the New Tab page according to the user’s choices. We do not collect personal browsing history, keystrokes, cookies, or form data.
No Account, No Tracking, No Ads: We do not require an account, run analytics, or serve ads.
DATA STORAGE AND RETENTION
Preferences are stored locally using the Chrome Extensions Storage API (chrome.storage.local
or chrome.storage.sync
). Data persists until the user removes the Extension or clears the Extension’s data. We do not transfer this data to our own servers.
PERMISSIONS WE REQUEST
storage
– to save the settings listed above.- Host permissions – the Extension fetches images from specific domains (e.g.,
https://images.unsplash.com/*
). These requests are read-only; the Extension does not read or modify web page content.
We request the minimum necessary permissions. If a permission is not essential to the single purpose, we do not request it.
REMOTE CODE
We do not execute remote code. All JavaScript is packaged with the Extension, and we do not use eval()
or dynamically loaded code. If a later version introduces a dependency that requires remote code, this policy and the Chrome Web Store listing will be updated.
CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
The Extension is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
SECURITY
While the Extension stores only local preferences, we follow best practices to protect user data, including the principle of least privilege and bundling code locally.
YOUR CHOICES
- You can review, change, or clear preferences at any time in the Extension’s settings.
- You can remove the Extension from Chrome to delete its data.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the Extension or legal requirements. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date. Material changes will be highlighted in the release notes.
